Gareth Edwards Explains Godzilla (2014) Trailer #2 With Details & Spoilers

Legendary and Gareth Edwards recently launched the second Godzilla trailer which has already stomped its way on to YouTube with well over 12 million views!

Now the director provides explanations and bits of spoilers in the following video regarding the newest Godzilla trailer with Empire Online.

Related: More details become known as Gareth Edwards screened the first 20 minutes of Godzilla in Germany.

You can skip and watch the video of Edwards below, or check out the following tidbits:

Bryan Cranston and Aaron-Taylor Johnson's family got torn apart 15 years ago by a "natural disaster," and now it comes back to haunt them in a big way.

Origami pictured in the trailer foreshadows something.

Statue of Liberty is not in NY; Edwards doesn't want to confirm which city.

What Ken Watanabe says was part of cinematic history and Godzilla lore.

Edwards also doesn't mention the possible Godzilla Mothra Twins Easter Egg (or firemen).

On the side of the bomb, they thought it would be fun to put an icon - Ghostbusters-style - of Godzilla.

They pitched the studio that the nuclear tests in the '50s weren't tests at all, but actually trying to destroy something. The studio loved the idea, and they grew more ideas out from there. That is the first sentence Edwards explained to anyone he was trying to pitch the film to.

The tentacle is not holding a bomb, "it's not quite the case."

Edwards told Warner Bros. when they pitched Godzilla, that if you don't get close to tearing up in the movie, then he has failed.

The bones are: "kind of a little treasure map for fans. Let them figure out what this all means. In our film, it's not that these things were magically created for some random reason. We tried to make it as realistic as possible. If there was a giant creature, how did it get here? Has it always been here, and if so, were there others? That's another question we address in the movie."

Edwards doesn't want to spoil the monsters in the movie, but if you freeze frame the Godzilla trailer, there are some obvious things implied.

On the first look of Godzilla as showin in the trailer:

"Our simple rule for conceiving Godzilla was imagine that he really existed, and that in the 1950s someone saw him in Japan and they ran to the studio, and they tried to explain him to the guys at Toho - they went and made the movies they made based on that description. And in our film, when you see him clearly with all the amazing CGI that's been done, you realize how they got that look, but this feels like the true Godzilla."

The new roar of Godzilla is in part based on how they created the original, and sounds fantastic in Dolbe Digital Surround 7.1.

"Godzilla" opens May 16, 2014 in 3D starring Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Ken Watanabe, Elizabeth Olsen Juliette Binoche, David Strathairn and Bryan Cranston. The screenplay is by Max Borenstein, Frank Darabont, and Dave Callaham.

An epic rebirth to Toho's iconic Godzilla, this spectacular adventure, from Warner Bros. Pictures and Legendary Pictures, pits the world's most famous monster against malevolent creatures who, bolstered by humanity's scientific arrogance, threaten our very existence.
