JUSTIN LIN

The Terminator is back!

Justin Lin, director on the blockbuster hit Fast Five, is a hot commodity at the moment.

So hot, that he is doing a sequel to Five, turned down Die Hard 5, had to bow out of the director's chair for Highlander (but remaining on as producer, I believe) -- and now had a meeting with James Cameron and Arnold Schwarzenegger to direct another "Terminator."

“Just even this week, I had a great meeting with Arnold and James Cameron, just sitting down unofficially. And James is so gracious because he’s not part of the project, he’s not going to be producing, but it was great of him just as a filmmaker to take time out to just talk,” Lin told The Playlist.

Lin continues revealing just how excited and passionate he is for the new "Terminator."

“I don’t know where it’s going to lead, but I never thought at this level I’m going to be able to meet filmmakers and be in situations where they’re that gracious and insightful and so inclusive,” Lin said “And that’s a franchise that I’m working on right now, but again, if I’m going to be kind of the gatekeeper to it, I want to make sure that I can hopefully build it up the right way – and so far that’s been the most fun. Just to be able to take James Cameron’s brain and for him to be so open even though he has no stakes in it, just as a human being, that’s something that I will always remember as a part of my journey as a filmmaker.”

Terminator first saw the light of day in 1984, directed by Cameron and starring Arnold Schwarzenegger, that saw a cyborg (Arnold) sent back in time to kill the mother of the leader of the human resistance in a future where machines ruled over man. This was followed up by the blockbuster Terminator 2 in 1991 that saw Cameron and Arnold return, with Arnold as a "good" cyborg protecting the future leader of the human rebellion, a young boy named John Connor. T2 also saw the introduction of a new form of Terminator, and with it, special effects akin to liquid metal. Two more movies and a television series spinoff have been produced, as well.
