While the official Warner Bros. press release didn't specifically announce it, I've learned that Ben Affleck has signed a multi-picture deal to play Batman.

Described by a source close to Warner Bros. as "huge," Affleck has signed on for multiple movies portraying Batman and Bruce Wayne.

I've also learned that the as-of-yet untitled Batman/Superman movie will feature Lex Luthor, and that the role has been cast.

Previous rumors mentioned for Lex Luthor include Mark Strong and Bryan Cranston.

I haven't been able to verify whether or not Strong or Cranston has been awarded the role, or if it's someone else entirely.

The same source stated that Warner Bros. is building a lot leading up to the Justice League movie.

Update: We are told Bryan Cranston has been cast as Lex Luthor with more details known.

You can read the official Warner Bros. announcement regarding Ben Affleck as the new Batman, which also announced the movie has a July 17, 2015 release with production set to begin next year.

The film is also set to star Henry Cavill, Amy Adams, Laurence Fishburne and Diane Lane.
