Eddie Redmayne Plays Down Guardians of the Galaxy Rumors

4413 Eight actors are said to be in contention to play Peter Quill, Star-Lord, in James Gunn's Guardians of the Galaxy movie.

Eddie Redmayne, who landed a role in Les Miserables, is numbered among the candidates to play that featured lead role.

Speaking with MTV, Redmayne stated he doesn't like to listen to all of it, otherwise it would make him a bit batty.

"There's noise with the internet of things that are true and not true," he told MTV. "If I listen to all of it, I'd go slightly insane."

When directly asked if he finds the Guardians of the Galaxy movie intriguing, Redmayne beats around the bush and doesn't address the rumor.

"I'm not going to go there with those rumors," he said.

MTV pressed on and asked if he would like to play a role in a comic book movie, with Redmayne stating he loves them.

"I love those films when they're done well. I loved watching Andrew and Emma in 'Spider-Man.' I loved watching 'The Dark Knight Rises.' There seems to be an audience now needing satisfaction beyond spectacle. From an actor's point of view, that makes it intriguing. I love going to see those films. I also like to shake it up -- I just did a musical. I don't like sitting in a box."

Redmaybe was also said to be a contender for the role of Harry Osborn in the Amazing Spider-Man 2, which we now know went to Dane DeHaan of Chronicle fame.

The other seven actors up for Star-Lord are said to be Joel Edgerton (WarriorZero Dark Thirty), Boardwalk Empire‘s Jack Huston, Cloud Atlas' Jim Sturgess, Lee Pace (LincolnThe Hobbit),  Sullivan Stapleton (Animal Kingdom), Tron: The Legacy's Garrett Hedlund and X-Men's James Marsden.

The Guardians of the Galaxy movie has an August 1, 2014 release date.
