NYCC 2011: Ultimate Marvel Vs. Capcom 3: CBN's The DOC vs. Giuseppe!

Giuseppe vs. The DOC in

Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3

Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3 certainly seems like another shameless money grab in Capcom’s growing list of recent, shameless money grabs: Super Street Fighter IV and Dead Rising 2: Off the Record.  I desperately wanted to attend Capcom’s video game panel talking about these titles in hopes of getting some kind of an explanation for releasing these titles as standalones, but unfortunately, schedule conflicts did not permit.  The Cosmic Book News crew did manage to get in on the tail end of that panel during the Q&A session to a very awkwardly tense question posed to the panel: “Why release these games as new titles instead of downloadable content for their original versions?”  The panel was all about avoiding this question as they gave one of those, “Well, we just felt they ought to be new games and at $39.99, they’re all a steal.”  I would more than agree with that statement had I not purchased the original Marvel vs. Capcom 3 which I purchased for $59.99.

I am certain millions of other gamers would agree with me so here’s the definitive warning to those buying into Capcom titles.  This method of video game sales strategy will only continue because it seems it is part of Capcom’s mission statement for crying out loud.  It looks as though Mega Man guru Keiji Inafune was right on the money when he said that the Japanese game industry is “finished.”  Then he quit as “Head of R&D Management Group, Consumer Games R&D Division and Contents Management Division” at Capcom.  Moves like Capcom’s game remix and re-release strategy are as much of admission of a lack of creativity as Hollywood remakes.

But enough about that and on with the virtual hostilities!

The DOC, Chris Bushley challenged Giuseppe Jones to some cartoon, animated violence and I was more than obliged to honor his request.  Seeing how much this man adores Thor, I was befuddled when he didn’t select him to lead his team:

Thus, DOC selected his squad of X-23, Storm and Deadpool (Deadpool?) against my team of Felicia, Phoenix and Hawkeye.  Although Hawkeye is somewhat cool, Ryu usually fills my third spot.  I only chose him in hopes of throwing Hawkeye’s tag team hyper combo on the DOC so he could get a heaping helping of Ant Man’s foot in his face.  The outcome of the battle royale can be seen here:
