Day of the Dead Remake Announced; Won't Be Zombie Back Flipping World War Z

Next year will see the release of a new Day of the Dead remake from the producers of The Texas Chainsaw Massacre 3D.

Christa Campbell and Lati Grobman told the LA Times that they have acquired the rights to the George Romero-classic, which last saw a remake in 2008.

Said to have a budget of around $10-20 million, the Day of the Dead remake will try to capitalize on the zombie epidemic that has infected consumers everywhere.

The Walking Dead is huge on AMC, and the recent zombie flick starring Brad Pitt, World War Z, chomped up the box office with close to $400 million in sales and a sequel already green lit.

However, this remake of Day of the Dead will stay a little more true to the original Romero version, which featured the military and scientists.

"Zombie movies are really popular right now, and we feel we could do this right,” Campbell said. "We want to keep it as close to the Romero version as possible to make sure that his fans are happy. These are not going to be zombies climbing walls and doing back flips like in World War Z."
