Dawn Of The Planet Of The Apes has $73 Million Debut: New Spot
Dawn of the Planet of the Apes had a $73 million debut this weekend - shattering some early estimates of $50 million - thanks in part to word-of-mouth and favorable glowing reviews.
In addition, Dawn of the Planet of the Apes earned an "A-" CinemaScore and currently sits at the top of the movie review aggregate site, Rotten Tomatoes, with 91% positive review rating and a 93% positive audience reaction.
The $73 million was good enough to surpass the previous Apes movie, Rise of the Planet of the Apes, which netted $54 million for its opening back in 2011.
Dawn of the Planet of the Apes currently has a worldwide total of just over $100 million, with the addition of $30.4 million from international screenings.
A third Planet of the Apes film has already been greenlit, which will see the return of Dawn of the Planet Of The Apes' Matt Reeves.
