Daredevil Appearance in Avengers 2? Rights Look To Revert To Marvel Studios and Disney
Previously it was reported that Disney and Marvel Studios were offering an extension for the Daredevil movie rights to Fox Studios in exchange for the Silver Surfer and Galactus.
Then it was said that no — it wasn't about a character exchange, but about Fox wanting Disney on as a co-financier.
Well, apparently Disney has said no to that idea, and it looks as if Fox will let the rights to Daredevil revert back to Disney and Marvel Studios.
Earlier today, director Joe Carnahan, who was attached to the Fox Daredevil movie that was described as "a Frank Miller-esque, hardcore 70s thriller," tweeted that he's basically off the project.
Think my idea for a certain retro, red-suited, Serpico-styled superhero went up in smoke today kids.— Joe Carnahan (@carnojoe) August 14, 2012
We shall see. Time is NOT on anyone's side.— Joe Carnahan (@carnojoe) August 14, 2012
As Carnahan notes, time is not on their side as a Daredevil movie is required to be in the works by October 10th.
I guess Fox doesn't have enough time to get it together.
Regarding why Fox would think Disney would give them an extension and back them financially is beyond me, as Disney would get the rights and have full control over Daredevil — who has recently become an Avenger in the Marvel comic books.
And Fox has a Fantastic Four movie reboot to work on, so why would they give up Surfer and Galactus?
Regardless what's what, if Daredevil does return to Marvel Studios, could we see Matt Murdock along side the Assemblers in The Avengers 2?
Or will Kevin Feige even give Carnahan the green light?
Should be interesting to see how it all plays out.
