Comic Sales Plummet 24.5% in January 2011! Fantastic Four #587 On Top
Is the sky falling?
Not sure about that just yet, but comic sales are.
Diamond released their early sales figures for January and it shows a big drop.
According to Newsarama sales dropped 24.5% for January 2011 compared to December of 2010.
When comparing comic and trade sales for January '11 to January of '10 - sales dropped 22.91%.
Wait, wasn't this the month the black bagged issue of Fantastic Four #587 hit? Sure was and it did come out on top. Outselling Brightest Day #17 by a large margin, which came in at #2.
As Newsarama notes, there is usually a big sales drop between December and January; however, Jan 2011 is up there -or down there- as one of the big ones.
Marvel is back on top in terms of Market Share and Unit Sales.
Note, the "real" numbers are not out yet, this is just an "index." So, we will have to wait and see just what the actual numbers are at.
Wow! An Image comic squeaked in the top ten with Spawn #200. Haven't heard much praise about that one, no wonder #201 is back at the bottom. Missed opportunity?
Marvel holds 5 of the top ten spots, while DC has 4.
The complete numbers should be coming in the next couple weeks.
