Clive Barker Announces Hellraiser Remake With Doug Bradley As Pinhead
Just in time for Halloween, Clive Barker lets it be known that a remake for the 1987 cult horror classic, Hellraiser, is underway and will see Doug Bradley return as Pinhead.
Clive Barker posted the news on his Facebook page with mention it will be an even darker and richer film than the original, and that it will not incorporate a lot of digital CGI effects as the legendary horror creator wants to remain true to practical make-up effects.
Barker will be writing the script for the new Hellraiser, which he is excited to get started on once everything is signed. Barker has actually touched Hellraiser only three times: once with the origin novel, the 1987 movie and the recent BOOM! Studios comic book series.
Hellraiser debuted in 1987 based on Barker's own novella, The Hellbound Heart, introducing audiences to the infamous puzzle box, the Cenobites and most notably Pinhead, their leader.
There have been numerous sequels and reboots for Hellraiser, with the last coming in 2012 in which Barker stated he had nothing to do with that.
"Hello, my friends. I want to put on record that the flic out there using the word Hellraiser IS NO FUCKIN' CHILD OF MINE!" Barker said of Hellraiser: Revelations. "I have NOTHING to do with the fuckin' thing. If they claim its from the mind of Clive Barker, it's a lie. It's not even from my butt-hole."
Good to see that Hellraiser and Pinhead have finally come home.
Here is what Clive Barker offered on the new Hellraiser:
HOT FROM HELL! My friends,I have some news which may be of interest to you. A few weeks ago I had a very productive meeting with Bob Weinstein of Dimension Pictures,in the course of which I pitched a remake of the first HELLRAISER film. The idea of my coming back to the original film and telling the story with a fresh intensity-honoring the structure and the designs from the first incarnation but hopefully creating an even darker and richer film-was attractive to Dimension. Today I have officially been invited to write the script based upon that pitch. What can I tell you about it?Well, it will not be a film awash with CGI. I remain as passionate about the power of practical make-up effects as I was when I wrote and directed the first HELLRAISER. Of course the best make-up in the world loses force if not inhabited by a first-rate actor. I told the Dimension team that in my opinion there could never be a Pinhead without Doug Bradley, and much to my delight Bob Weinstein agreed. So once the papers are signed , I will open a Lemarchand Configuration, dip my quill in its contents and start writing . I promise that there will be nowhere on the Internet where the news of my progress will be more reliable than here ,because the only author of these reports will be Your Infernal Corespondent ,me. My very best wishes to you
