CBN M.E. Byron Brewer Honored With Key To Kentucky City




Byron Brewer, managing editor of Cosmic Book News, was the recipient Aug. 1 of the coveted Key to the City of Georgetown (KY). The key was presented to Brewer by Georgetown Mayor Everette Varney.

The award was given in recognition of Brewer’s 30 years of news coverage of Georgetown and Scott County, including key meetings of Georgetown City Council.

Brewer, a member of the coveted International Society of Weekly Newspaper Editors, worked for over 19 years as editor and managing editor of numerous Scott County (KY) newspapers, including the current Georgetown News-Graphic. He retired due to illness, but since 2006 has written the weekly column, “My Georgetown,” for the News-Graphic.

He joined the staff of CBN a year or so ago and has enjoyed his writing chores on the popular column, What the D’ast?, characters or storylines featured in his “Brewer Report,” and also reviews a variety of titles. Brewer edits for CBN as well and is the creator of The Wonder Worlock character, whose adventures are seen every other Thursday on the website.

In 2010, the journalist was honored for his coverage of and working on behalf of the Scott County community as the Scott County Fiscal Courtand the local Chamber of Commerce decreed Sept. 15 as “Byron Brewer Day.”

Most recently, Brewer’s weekly column was voted “Readers’ Choice” by the readership of the Georgetown News-Graphic.
