Captain America 2 On Track To Break April Records: Compared To The Dark Knight

Captain America: The Winter Soldier looks to be on track for a $100 million opening weekend domestically with estimates ranging from around $90 million to even as high as $115 million.

Thursday night saw Captain America 2 net $10.2 million, which was about $3 million better than what Thor 2 did (Iron Man 3 took in $15.6 million with The Avengers $18.7 million).

Captain America 2 is also on track to break April records, currently held by Fast Five with an $86.2 million opening.

Typically, May has been the movie studio's month of choice to kick off the Summer blockbuster season, but with next month having a host of blockbuster debuts (Amazing Spider-Man 2, X-Men: Days Of Future Past, Godzilla, Maleficient), it looks as if Marvel Studios made the right choice going with Captain America 2 a month early. Perhaps it will set a new trend.

Word-of-mouth and reviews have been overwhelmingly positive for Captain America 2 as well. It's reported the film has a solid "A" CinemaScore amongst audiences polled, and the movie review aggregate site Rotten Tomatoes has Captain America 2 with a current 88% positive rating from reviewers and a 95% positive rating from fans.

That 95% positive rating for Captain America 2 from fans is currently ahead of The Dark Knight (94%), which is long considered by the fanboys to be the best comic book movie adaptation to date.

Even hitting up Twitter we see posts mentioning comparisons to The Dark Knight as well.
