Benedict Cumberbatch Not Doing Many More Villains After Star Trek Into Darkness; Talks Tom Hiddleston
Benedict Cumberbatch will play the villain John Harrison in Star Trek Into Darkness, a character surrounded by mystery, but one said to have both extraordinary mental and physical powers.
Cumberbatch was present in London for the debut of the nine minutes of Star Trek Into Darkness IMAX footage and spoke with the Assoicated Press (via Washinton Post).
He says he is a good friend of The Avengers star, Tom Hiddleston, and following in Hiddleston's footsteps, but also goes on to say he will not be doing many more villains following Star Trek.
I’m following in the very hallowed footsteps of (Jeremy) Irons, (Alan) Rickman and Tom Hiddleston, my great friend in this summer’s “Avengers.” There are a few of us who have done it before, it stretches back as old as time. They get excited about these actors with theatre training who can do stuff. It’s hugely flattering but you’re not going to see me do a whole raft of villains after this.”
J.J. Abrams recently described the character of John Harrison as a frightening and cool villain, but the question remains: Is this all a red-herring? As most are leaning toward Khan as Cumberbatch's actual identity.
Star Trek Into Darkness has a May 17th, 2013 release date in 3D, is directed by J.J. Abrams and stars Chris Pine as Capt. James T. Kirk, Zachary Quinto as Spock, Karl Urban as Leonard "Bones" McCoy, Zoe Saldana as Nyota Uhura, Simon Pegg as Scotty, Anton Yelchin as Pavel Chekov, John Cho as Hikaru Sulu and Benedict Cumberbatch as an unnamed villain.
