Kevin Pennington in The Avengers (2012) as Wendell Vaughn (Quasar)
Updated 2/10/11: According to IGN, this is untrue as a Marvel spokesperson said, "this particular press release is a fabrication."
I asked Marvel earlier and was told, "no comment." I'm keeping my hopes alive - I am a Quasar fan after all!
Now before we get our quantum-bands all in a bunch, keep in mind this is purely speculation, but -
Big Shiny Robot got it from a "source" who claims they work for a NYC TV station, that the following "press release" was sent out. Apparently, it seems, the source took this from a press release and then revealed the info in his own way. Something about the cast showing up at the San Diego Comic Con as well.
Note, it states that actor Kevin Pennington will be playing Agent Wendell Vaughn - that is the Marvel superhero known as Quasar.
Details are a little sketchy, but I'm excited! Here they are:
"S.H.I.E.L.D. invites you to join the AVENGERS initiative
Meet the cast of S.H.I.E.L.D. and join the Avengers initiative! Marvel Studios to announce an S.H.I.E.L.D. Assembly in New York City for spring 2011. During principal filming, S.H.I.E.L.D. will be out in full force in NYC to recruit and find new members. Cast members on hand include Samuel L. Jackson (Director Nick Fury), Clark Gregg (Agent Phil Coulson), Cobie Smulders (Agent Maria Hill) and Kevin Pennington (Agent Wendell Vaughn). Fans will get the chance to meet the stars and get their photograph taken with them at the event."
Wendell Vaughn was a S.H.I.E.L.D. and when he dons one of the most powerful tools in the universe, the quantum-bands, he becomes the Protector of the Universe known as Quasar!
Kevin Pennington is a model and known for the Axe Body Spray commercials. He also had a role in "90210" (2009), is currently filming the made for TV movie, "Tilda," and may have an upcoming role in the new Mortal Combat movie that was just announced.
The Avengers, directed by Joss Whedon, is due out May 4th, 2012 starring Chris Evans as Captain America, Chris Hemsworth as Thor, Robert Downey Jr. as Iron Man, Samuel L. Jackson as Nick Fury and Mark Ruffalo as Bruce Banner.
