The Avengers (2012): Assembles With A $178 Million International Opening

1584 The Avengers is not only kicking some alien butt, but it's taking International names as well!

Reports are coming in from the foreign premieres of The Avengers movie with record breaking numbers.

The Avengers movie took the top spot - ever - for Mexico ($15.9 million) and Brazil ($11.3 million).

In The U.K., The Avengers scored the biggest ever opening for a super hero movie with $24.7 million, and was Disney's biggest three day opening for the U.K. as well.

Australia saw The Avengers come in #2 of all time with $19.7 million.

Likewise, Taiwan, Hong Kong and the Philippines all had The Avengers as their highest opening weekend gross.

The Avengers also debuted in India, which saw the movie score the third highest gross for Western films.

And The Avengers has yet to open in the bigger markets of China, Russia, Japan and the U.S.

The Avengers movie assembles May 4th, 2012 and is directed by Joss Whedon, starring Robert Downey Jr. as Iron Man, Chris Hemsworth as Thor, Chris Evans as Captain America, Samuel L. Jackson as Nick Fury, Mark Ruffalo as the Hulk, Scarlett Johansson as the Black Widow and Jeremy Renner as Hawkeye.
