Abnett and Lanning Talk 'Annihilators: Earthfall'

picNext week sees the might of Annihilators make its way to Earth in the four issue mini Annihilators: Earthfall, from the CBN fan-favorite team of Dan Abnett and Andy Lanning, collectively known as DnA.

Marvel Cosmic comes home with art by the returning artist Tan Eng Huat, and with that, a new Editor is onboard with John Denning, previously an Assistant Editor at Marvel.

Abnett and Lanning answered a few questions over at CBR, conspicuously absent was any mention of the Silver Surfer - which is probably safe to assume went over to Fraction's The Defenders (and is also appearing in The Mighty Thor), but the team will be made up of Quasar, Ikon, Beta Ray Bill, Ronan and Gladiator.

So what causes the Galaxy's Mightiest to target Earth?

"A big threat, about as big as it gets, and it's focused on Earth. They either shut it down while it's still building, or they miss their chance. Once it gets too powerful nothing will stop it -- and the Universe will suffer," DnA said.

With the threat being as large as it is, there is no time for negotiations. When the Annihilators arrive on Earth - trouble brews!

"The Annihilators come on like a threat from outer space -- there's no time to be polite or cordial. The Avengers are either in it with them or in the way," DnA stated.

Per the cover and solicit for Annihilators #3, an old friend of the Guardians of the Galaxy's returns - the Magus!

"Magus is a galactic level threat and, like Thanos and Korvac and the other alpha-plus menaces, he's more than a match for any team. His power level makes him almost impossible to stop," DnA said.

DnA also mentioned the back-up, starring everyone's favorite team of Rocket Raccoon and Groot!

"If you though their last adventure was crazy (and it was, with fabulous art by Tim Green!) you should see where this one goes. It's off the wall!" they said.

Though silent when asked about other possible characters that might appear, DnA were quite enthusiastic when asked about doing more Marvel Cosmic.

"Yes, yes, yes and absolutely we do!"

Head on over to CBR for more from DnA, and also a take a look at some preview pages.

"Annihilators: Earthfall" hits September 7th!
